Babywearing freedom since 2005
Born in 2005 from the spark of an idea by Vicki Marx in the German countryside, mamalila began with one simple need: freedom. The freedom to being active outside, even after becoming a mum! Babywearing was the first step — but what happens when the first raindrop falls?
Designing the very first mamalila jackets was Vicki’s way of keeping on doing the things she loves, taking care of herself, while also caring for her two children.
The mamalila way: our 3 cornerstones
mamalila is more than just jackets – it’s a way of seeing motherhood, shaped by mums for mums. Over the years, we’ve held onto three core beliefs that keep us on track, from the first sketch to the final stitch.

mamalila, the original
In 2005, babywearing was back in Germany – but cold weather or rain made it tricky. The “options”? A rare poncho, bulky layers crammed under the carrier, an umbrella in one hand, or your partner’s oversized jacket. Result: potato-sack style, cold draughts, and baby’s airways not always clear.
The worst option of all? Being forced to stay home in the bad season. No way. That’s where mamalila stepped in.

Where does the name mamalila even come from?
mamalila is more than just a name – it’s a family story. When our founder, Vicki, created her first jacket, she had just become a mum of two. Combining “mama” with the names of her children – Lilli and Lasse – gave life to mama-li-la. A name that reflects exactly what we’re about: making life easier for parents and strengthening their bond with their little ones.
